Non-calcareous sands are not saturated with excessive calcium making it easier to maintain a balanced fertility program. The absence of excessive calcium leads to slower nitrogen breakdown which helps prevent disease in susceptible turf. Due to lower pH levels, applied nutrients are more available to the plant. A non-calcareous sand does not weather and breakdown as fast as calcareous sands; therefore retaining its physical properties for a greater length of time.
